What we collect

When installed on a store, RetainGuard receives order data through Shopify webhooks (orders/create, orders/updated). From each order we store:

• Order ID, total price, and currency
• Customer ID and email address
• Whether the order used a selling plan (subscription) or a discount code
• The order's creation and cancellation timestamps

We do not collect customer names, phone numbers, or shipping/billing addresses. We do not access payment details.

Why we collect it

This data is used to power the merchant-facing analytics dashboard inside the app: recurring revenue estimates, repeat-customer rate, churn/at-risk detection, and discount-abuse detection. We do not use customer data for marketing, advertising, or any purpose other than providing this analytics functionality to the merchant who installed the app.

What we write back to Shopify

When a customer becomes at-risk (a repeat customer who has gone quiet well past their own usual reorder gap), a corresponding tag is added to that customer's record in the merchant's own Shopify admin, and removed automatically once it no longer applies: retainguard-at-risk, and retainguard-likely-lost for the most overdue tier. A customer who matches our discount-abuse pattern gets retainguard-discount-abuse the same way. This lets the merchant use their own existing tools, such as segments, email flows, or other apps, to act on the signal. Tags are written only to the merchant's own store, and are never sent anywhere outside Shopify.

If a merchant clicks “Set up protection segment” on the Settings page inside the app, RetainGuard also creates one customer segment in their store (named “RetainGuard: Discount abuse protection”) that excludes customers carrying the discount-abuse tag. This segment is only created when a merchant explicitly requests it, and the merchant decides whether and where to use it on their own discount codes.

How long we keep it

Order data is retained only while the app is installed on a store. When a merchant uninstalls RetainGuard, we delete all order and customer data associated with that store within 48 hours, triggered automatically by Shopify's app/uninstalled webhook.

Sharing

We do not sell customer data, and we do not share it with any third party.
